Shri Vethathiri Maharishi was truly a Guru worthy of all the worship that we give him. He lived by example. He practiced whatever he taught us. He asked us not to believe what he told us, but to use our own intelligence and question everything from our own internal research to develop further from what he has taught us.
It is very difficult to find a Guru like him, so highly evolved, with so many revelations, so humble and asks you not to believe him but to actually believe in yourself. He kept telling us that we should believe in the goodness within ourselves, that we are a fraction of the totality which is the almighty force. When the fraction demands, the totality supplies. He has researched and written more than 75 books on topics that are so relevant in this day and age.
Shri Vethathiri Maharishi was born in a small village called Guduvanchery in Tamil Nadu in 1911 to a very small family. The family found it extremely difficult to face the poverty that they were in. The parents did a penance where they prayed to bear a son who would remove the poverty of the family. His mother wouldnt eat with her hands during her pregnancy. She would sit on the floor and bend down and eat with her mouth as her way of undergoing the penance. Each time she would so that, she would wish continuously for a boy who would take away their poverty. Vethathiri Maharishi was born and he grew with 3 important questions in his mind:
1. Why is there poverty?
2. Why are there difficulties and pain in life?
3. Who is God? Who am I?
These questions guided him in life. He went on to become a famous co-operative head and had several thousand looms under him as a lungi manufacturer during the II World War. However, he somehow lost it all and dedicated himself to spirituality. He set up a trust called as the World Community Center.
He set up the first Temple of Consciousness in Aliyar, near Coimbatore under the Annamalai Hills where he said that consciousness is God. He devised Kayakalpa Yoga, Simplified Kundalini Yoga, Introspection Techniques, Simplified Physical Exercises. These 4 pillars formed the basis for everything that he did in life. He wrote a book called the Blueprint for World Peace which he presented in the United Nations. He strongly believed that world peaceful is possible only through individual peace.
He believed that peace that every individual must become peaceful. To do that, a systematic, simple practice not based on religion but on scientific and logic must be taught to everybody.
