Here are some tips that help me:
Meditating as soon as I wake up in the morning gives me a huge boost of energy to the brain to get awake. I do a longer meditation after the physical exercises and kayakalpa exercises. These exercises helps regulate the circulation in the body and creates harmony in the physical body. It helps me go to deeper levels of meditation. I have practiced this morning routine for many years.
Around the sunset I like to meditate in the evening or before going to bed. Everytime I meditate I tell myself that I will not run away and just focus on my life force so that when I come out of my meditation I can focus on my thoughts. The noise and distractions outside are easy to manage, but the distracting thoughts inside the mind are hard to manage. I have a conversation with my mind and tell my mind that I will attend to the thoughts after I finish the meditation.
I normally sit in a place where there is least disturbance and also which doesn't disturb others. I make sure there is enough ventilation. I dont need any light and also dont use any music for meditation.
